Embark on a 16-day birdwatching adventure across Sri Lanka’s most iconic landscapes and national parks. From the lagoons of Muthurajawela to the dense rainforest of Sinharaja, this journey is designed for keen birders and nature enthusiasts. Along the way, you’ll combine wildlife safaris, rainforest treks, and cultural landmarks for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Duration: 16 Days / 15 Nights
Day 1 | Arrival: BIA → Negombo
Touch down at Bandaranaike International Airport. You’ll be greeted and transferred to Negombo. Check into your hotel and unwind after the flight. Overnight stay in Negombo.
Day 2 | Negombo → Wilpattu
Start early with a birdwatching boat safari at Muthurajawela Marsh, spotting wetland species. Later, transfer to Wilpattu and enjoy an evening walk around the park’s borders. Overnight stay in Wilpattu.
Day 3 | Wilpattu
A full-day safari at Wilpattu National Park. Explore diverse landscapes, spot leopards, sloth bears, raptors, and wetland birds. Picnic lunch inside the park. Overnight stay in Wilpattu.
Day 4 | Wilpattu → Sigiriya
Transfer to Sigiriya. In the evening, enjoy a safari at Minneriya National Park, home to the famous elephant gatherings. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.
Day 5 | Sigiriya
Morning visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, take an evening birdwatching walk in Habarana. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.
Day 6 | Sigiriya → Kandy
Transfer to Kandy. Visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. Stroll by Kandy Lake and enjoy the evening atmosphere. Overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 7 | Kandy → Kitulgala
Morning birdwatching walk at Udawatta Kele Sanctuary. Transfer to Kitulgala, a rainforest paradise. Overnight stay in Kitulgala.
Day 8 | Kitulgala → Nuwara Eliya
Morning rainforest trek in Kitulgala. Continue to Nuwara Eliya, with en-route stops at St. Clair’s and Devon Falls. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 9 | Nuwara Eliya
Trek through Horton Plains National Park. Look for endemic species such as Sri Lanka Junglefowl, Sri Lanka Wood Pigeon, and Sri Lanka Bush Warbler. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 10 – Nuwara Eliya → Tissamaharama
Transfer to Tissamaharama via Ella. Stop at the iconic Nine Arches Bridge and Little Adam’s Peak. Overnight stay in Tissamaharama.
Day 11 | Bundala
A full-day safari at Bundala National Park, a wetland haven for migratory and resident waterbirds, including flamingos and pelicans. Overnight stay in Tissamaharama.
Day 12 | Tissamaharama → Udawalawe
Transfer to Udawalawe. In the evening, enjoy a safari at Udawalawe National Park, famed for elephants and birdlife. Overnight stay in Udawalawe.
Day 13 | Udawalawe → Sinharaja
Travel to Sinharaja Rainforest. Evening leisure walk, perfect for spotting nocturnal species. Overnight stay in Sinharaja.
Day 14 | Sinharaja
Spend the day trekking inside Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Spot endemic bird species such as Sri Lanka Blue Magpie and Red-faced Malkoha. Overnight stay in Sinharaja.
Day 15 – Sinharaja → Colombo
Transfer to Colombo. Enjoy a city exploration in the evening. Overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 16 – Departure: Colombo → BIA
Private transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight.
