What to Expect

Your day begins with a private transfer from your hotel in Colombo or Negombo, departing around 5:00 AM for a scenic drive to the rainforest foothills of Kitulgala. Guests joining directly can meet the guide at the Makandawa trailhead by 6:30 AM.

The birdwatching trek starts between 8:00 and 8:30 AM for guests arriving from Colombo or Negombo. Guided by an experienced naturalist, you’ll explore shaded rainforest paths alive with the songs of endemic birds such as the Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Layard’s Parakeet, Chestnut-backed Owlet, and Spot-winged Thrush. This 3-hour experience is an intimate journey into Sri Lanka’s rainforest heart — rich, peaceful, and teeming with life.

After your guided experience, return to the starting point and transfer back to your hotel, or continue exploring the scenic Kitulgala region.
