Tour Overview
Step beyond the familiar and follow the trails of Sri Lanka’s medieval rulers. This full-day journey from Colombo leads to ruined palaces, quiet relic houses, and the dramatic granite citadel of Yapahuwa. It is a day of stone and story — of staircases carved by hands long gone and panoramas that hold centuries of memory.
Itinerary
Your day begins at 06:00 am when your chauffeur-guide collects you from your Colombo hotel. The route keeps a steady, unhurried pace so you can absorb each site:
- Drive to Dambadeniya (approx. 3 hours) — On arrival, spend about 2 hours exploring the hilltop ruins and the ancient temple linked to medieval kings.
- Drive to Panduwasnuwara (approx. 1 hour) — Explore for about 1 hour, wandering the palace ruins and relic sites that echo early Sinhalese legends.
- Travel to Yapahuwa (approx. 1 – 1.5 hours) — Pause for lunch en route before reaching the fortress.
- Yapahuwa Rock Fortress (approx. 2 hours) — Climb the famed lion stairway, study the stone carvings and drink in sweeping views of the plains.
After the final visit you will begin the return to Colombo, arriving back by evening with a day rich in history and landscape.
